Shocking road rage in Bengaluru: Couple chases biker, kills him

Bengaluru, 25 October 2025 – A horrifying road rage incident in Bengaluru has left one young man dead and his friend seriously injured, after what began as a minor collision escalated into a deliberate chase and fatal crash. AP7am+2www.ndtv.com+2

What happened

Late on the night of 25 October, around 11:30 pm, a two-wheeler carrying 24-year-old Darshan N and his friend Varun was involved in a minor impact with a car near the Shri Ram Mandir / Puttenahalli area under the jurisdiction of the JP Nagar Traffic Police / Puttenahalli Police Station. The collision reportedly damaged the car’s right-side rear-view mirror.

CCTV footage reviewed by police later revealed that instead of resolving the incident calmly, the car’s driver performed a U-turn, chased the two-wheeler for almost 2 km, and then intentionally rammed the motorcycle from behind, throwing the riders off. Darshan died of his injuries; his pillion friend Varun sustained serious injuries and is hospitalised.

After the crash, the couple in the car reportedly returned to the scene, wearing face masks, to collect broken car parts and dispose of evidence.

The accused

The car-driver has been identified as 32-year-old Manoj Kumar, a physical/arts instructor (and Kalaripayattu trainer), from Kerala. His wife, 30-year-old Aarti Sharma (or “Aarati”/“Arti” in some reports) from Jammu & Kashmir, is also accused and has been arrested.

Police have registered a murder case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of pre-meditated murder, destruction of evidence, and grievous hurt.

Legal & public reaction

The deliberate nature of the act—chasing and ramming the two-wheeler—has elevated the case from “road accident” to a full murder investigation. The shocking CCTV footage circulating on social media has provoked outrage and calls for stricter action against road rage.

Broader concerns

This incident spotlights growing concerns about aggressive driving and road violence in urban India. Minor traffic incidents are increasingly escalating into deadly confrontations, raising questions about situation-management, anger control on roads, and enforcement of traffic laws.
