Roots OTT Platform Offers Free Access to Regional Indian Films
A new streaming platform, Roots, has launched with the aim of spotlighting regional Indian films in over 12 languages—including Marathi, Assamese, Meitei, and Odia—completely free and ad-free.
Founded by filmmaker Sudha Murugan, Roots focuses on independent, student, and folk cinema that rarely finds space on commercial OTT platforms. “Our goal is to make culturally rich films accessible to everyone, from any corner of India,” Murugan said at the launch.
🌟 Key Benefits:
- Free Access, No Ads: Open to all viewers without payment or subscription.
- Subtitled for Learning: English and Hindi subtitles support education and language diversity.
- Fair Pay for Creators: Independent filmmakers earn via viewership-based royalty.
Titles like Kharvas (Marathi), Sora (Meitei), and Nirbachana (Odia) are already drawing praise. Within two weeks, Roots crossed 3 million views, especially from rural and tier-2 cities.
Actors, educators, and critics have called Roots a “revolution in inclusive entertainment.” A special Independence Day film showcase, Voices of India, is also set to stream mid-August.
